Artist's Comments

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's grave at Birchington-on-Sea, Kent. I had to go past the village today, so I stopped and bought some flowers for him. A bunch of red roses to say thank you for all the inspiration he has given so many people over the years. I don't think I'd be so interested in art if I hadn't fallen in love with Rossetti's work at an early age.

This isn't a great photo. It isn't even a very good photo. But it deserves a place here, for Dante.

Lovely!

We're done here.
Oh! What a good idea! Pretty stone too!
A long time gone, but not forgotten. I was in my mid twenties, when I became aware of the PRB and Dante. The work of those boys has been a love affair of mine ever since. Rest in peace.

Have you read, "Pre-Raphaelites in love"
by Gay Daly? It's a fascinating book.

It's great to hear that people still give respect to these old and wonderful artists like Dante. The Pre-Raphaelite movement is one of my favourite styles for art. It's so romantic and clear, just amazing! I love it! :) Well done for this kind gesture.

That's very nice of you.
I've been in love with the Pre-Raphaelites for a long time (my favourites are early Millais and late Burne-Jones... but that's a long story...)

Anyway, I don't believe Rossetti will ever be forgotten (unlike some of his contemporaries and friends). He produced so many beautiful, highly appealing pieces that he'll never be short of admirers.

Trust me. I'm telling you stories.
I actually bought a copy of that book last weekend to add to my ever-growing Pre-Raphaelite shelf! I'm slogging my way through Jan Marsh's biography of Rossetti at the moment (I love her books, I've read a whole Pre-Raph ones by her) - it's wonderful but very very long!

It's a cliche, but I really think discovering the Pre-Raphaelites changed my life. It was admiring their work, all the glories of colour and pattern and beauty, that made me feel in love with art.
