Each one of these is more impressive than the last! Beautiful! Lovely! My favourite has to be the 'R' at the start, but all the letters are fantastic. I must :+fav: this one immediately!

As an ex-calligrapher and Illuminator, let me say these are exquisite and so in keeping with the period. If I didn't know better I would say they were traced from a French manuscript. Gawd, I would love to see them in color with 24kt gilding. Absolutely wonderful. :+fav:

Not traced! I promise =D My drawing skills are much better than my tracing ones LOL!

In colour ... hmm ... that's an interesting idea. I got very bored of these a year or so ago, but now I'm going back to them to play around with a few letters (bits and bobs in my scraps section) as someone wants to use a few of them for a needlework project. So, yes, I might have to play with colour now as well =D

On vellum with real gold leaf. I love the whole series.

O.O what an amazing picture! I must admit I've never got into lettering enough to do such things. Vellum and gold leaf sound too easy to mess up, though I'd *love* to try - I've seen several pics recently of wonderful knotwork on vellum using all sorts of wonderful pigments, and they have a different dimension completely to them. I don't even know where I'd get these things from though! Well, maybe I should find out =D

I used to buy vellum and goldleafing supplies in London. I can't remember the name of the store, but it wasn't too far from Covent Garden.
I also used to belong to the Society of Scribes and Illuminators. That was where I got my first lesson on making gesso and working with 24kt gold leaf. Once you discover it, look out. It can be addictive.

London Graphics Centre? That's the biggy art shop near Covent Garden ... I've never noticed goldleafing stuff there though - but probably because I always run upstairs to grab sketchpads and pencils. I'm actually going there on Monday ... there's a good coincidence =D

Good luck. I'm sure you can find somebody to give you some lessons on gesso... I hope this comes to pass because I think your stuff is gonna absolutely ROCK! :)

Thank you :)

I seem to remember the first one took a good bit of time, after that the letters just really made themselves, with lots of random flowers and leaves popping up everywhere!
